How To Increase i-Phone Battery Life

Before increasing the battery life of your i-phone you should check your battery status on the following ways.

  1. Write down the usage and standby numbers found under the 'General - Usage' section in settings.
  2. Lock your phone for 5 minutes.
  3. Check your standby and usage numbers.
  4. Your standby number should have increased by 5 minutes, but your usage time should not have. Your usage should only have increased by a minute at most.
  5. If your usage time increased 5 minutes too, you have a problem. Something is using your phones battery when it shouldn't.

1.Disable Location Services for Facebook

Turn off location services all together if you can. Or, at least be very selective of which apps you allow to use this feature. Facebook in particular seems to be a battery hog on this.
Location Services - Click on the 'Privacy' section in Settings and turn off Location Services for as many apps as possible.

2.Disable Background App Refresh

Durning off as much of the Background App Refresh as possible is a good idea. Facebook, again, seem to be particularly bad with this, but turn them all off to start is my suggestion and turn back on the ones you end up wanting. My guess is you won't turn any back on.
Background App Refresh - Click on 'General - Background App Refresh' in Settings and turn off as many apps as possible, or all of them.

3.Don't Kill Apps That Are Multi-Tasking

Don't kill these apps. It turns out that the work your phone does to reload these apps into the phone's RAM is more draining on the battery than keeping them in the RAM if they are already there. Your phone is already doing a good job of managing what is actually running. Seeing these apps here doesn't actually mean they are running.

4.Turn Off Automatic Time-Zones

In the 'General - Date & Time' section of settings, turn off the 'Set Automatically' setting. This just means that when you change timezones you will have to go in here and set the new timezone manually.

5.Turn Off AirDrop

When you're not using AirDrop, it's best to keep it off. Just swipe up to bring up the Control Center and click on AirDrop and click 'Off'.

6.Turn Off Auto App Update

In the 'iTunes & App Store' section in Settings, set turn off the Updates option. You will have to update your apps manually but you can still update them all at once from the app store updates section. This will help especially if you have a lot of apps because they will be updating maybe everyday even if you're on cellular if you have that setting on too.

7.Turn on Reduce Motion

This will take away some of the pretty animations in iOS 7, but you can always turn it back off if you want the animations. Go to the 'General - Accessibility' section of Settings and turn Reduce Motion to 'On' .

8.Set Auto-Brightness to On

  1. Go to the 'Wallpapers & Brightness' section in Settings
  2. Go to a dark room and set the brightness all the way down.
  3. Turn Auto-Brightness On, then Off, then On again. This will recalibrate it.

Your phone should do a good job of adjusting the brightness so that it isn't unnecessarily bright when it doesn't need to be. The screen is one of the most power intensive aspects of your phone.
